Sorry to say
As I sat down in the beautifully ornate Richmond Theatre, I was transported back in time. Full of hope that the surrounds might partner the performance. Jennifer Saunders was the glue that held the play together but yet still seemed tired, but my fondness of her carried her through. The actress who played Elvira was incorrectly cast in my opinion. Her relaxed modern speaking voice, tone and manorisums made her stick out like a sore thumb, she seemed liked she would be better suited as a nurse in holby city. Dressed In a nightgown that looked like it was ordered off asos yesterday, sadly she didn't gel with the rest of the cast that superbly supported the era. It began to grate on me the weak manner she said the word "darling" endless stared off into the distance & smiling for long periods for no reason it all, all became a bit cringeworthy in a Sixth form andram way. There should have been humor, bitterness, strength, and a vindictive twist to her but sadly there was not.
Blithe Spirit
Fully agree with previous review. Tired, wooden, dull. I looked at my watch as much as the stage.
