Olivier winning comedy returns to the stage
Having won an Olivier Award when it debuted on the West End in 2014, ingenious comedy Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense returns to tour the UK in 2027! Written specially for the stage by Robert and David Goodale based on the 1938 novel The Code of the Woosters - and with splendid justice done to the dialogue-heavy style of writing in the P.G. Wodehouse classic - beloved idle rich boy, Bertie Wooster, and his trusty valet, Jeeves, are played by Tom Rosenthal (Friday Night Dinner) and Adrian Scarborough (Gavin and Stacey) respectively. Directed by Phillip Breen, the tour is a welcome revival of a hilarious show which rightly won Best New Comedy at the 2014 Oliviers, and an overdue reappearance of Wodehouse's comical pair, following a century of adored novels, TV, film and radio adaptations.
Idle rich boy Bertie Wooster decides to stage a one-man-play about his time at the grand country home Totleigh Towers. But in true Wooster fashion, despite his grand designs it soon becomes clear he's not in the least bit prepared, and his trusty butler Jeeves finds himself stepping in to assist his indulgent employer with costume and set design, as well as playing most of the other characters. The result is a fast-paced, silly, but immensely enjoyable play-within-a-play that boasts ingenious comic timing.
